The research and teaching activities on the newly formed Polish capital market were initially located in the Finance Department. Following the rapid development of the capital market in Poland the research and teaching activities had to be intensified. On 1 April 1998 the Capital Market Team within the structure of the Finance Department was established to concentrate the scientific activities within the area of financial markets within one Department. On 1 February 2001 the separate Capital Market Department has been created assigned from the Finance Department. Further development of financial markets and the increasing importance in the economy followed by intensified research and enlargement of the educational offer for students have led to further changes. In December 2006 the Capital Market Department has changed its name to the Financial Markets Department. In September 2007 the Capital Market Department and the Financial Engineering unit have been created within the Financial Markets Department. Professor Jan Czekaj heads the Department.
